I am a 8th social studies teacher to 160 students in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Since history can often be very dry topic, I try to include lots of creative projects for my students to apply their knowledge. One such project was to create Christmas ornaments that represented our wonderful state. The problem I have is that I lack supplies to do these types of activities. I would like to develop an art center in my room where I could keep a class set of art kits that include glue, scissors, crayons, colored pencils, and markers, as well as butcher paper for them to work with. It would be so nice to give the students a drawing assignment, and actually be able to give them the supplies to do it! Over the years, I know that the more students work with maps and visuals, the more likely they are to remember the information for the long term. I would love to be able to give my students this gift, but I need the supplies to accomplish it!
