Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the most special children in the world. Their autism makes them even more unique and special to all of those who care for them, teach them and love them. In our public school, they are entitled to the same curriculum and education as their typical peers. However, since they have major difficulty understanding language, their most effective way of learning is through visuals.
Therefore, it is necessary to create a huge number of visuals for each and every student for social skills, independent skills and curriculum.
My Project
My students are making tremendous progress this year with visual aids. We create special pictures to accompany the general education curriculum to enhance comprehension in all subjects. Our students require visual aids to transition throughout their day and to communicate their wants and needs. Something as simple as a 6-year-old using a picture of candy not only helps that child get his needs met but also prevents huge, aggressive tantrums. Visual supports are essential to the function of an autistic child. We need a photo printer and ink to create visuals. Our children need your help in being able to communicate and understand what is being said to them.
