Our students live in a digital world today. I teach in an inner-city, low-socioeconomic area, and we are not afforded the luxuries of some of the common technologies present in suburban schools. I want my students to be successful and prepared for life outside of high school. By using technology in my classroom, I am exposing them to life outside of their ?neighborhood.? I would like to set up a technology-friendly English classroom, where students are able to share with one another. The materials I am requesting will have many uses in my English classroom: students will be able to share their work with one another (editing a paper is crucial in the writing process), provide immediate feedback using the document camera, demonstrate processes to the entire class or the entire 9th grade, display books we are reading in class because I do not have enough in a class set, plus numerous other activities. Using this form of technology also saves paper, in which we always run low. We are allowed limited copies of materials, so this is one way to overcome that need. I feel like I am requesting this for my English I class. They deserve the best, and I am trying to provide that for them. Keeping my students interested in learning and moving beyond high school are two concerns I have. Using technology in the classroom is one way to attain these goals.
