My Students

The students at JHS are an amazing group of kids. They are situated in the Keweenaw Peninsula on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They are a group that generally enjoys the outdoors and working with their hands.

Activities that allow for hands on work and full class participation are ideal for these students.

The more often that they get to work in groups on projects, the better. However, they can sometimes need some encouragement to share their thoughts, so any way to get kids exciting to be involved is beneficial in classes.

They are group that in general has lower income than many other schools, and some families struggle to make ends meet. But, our kids are a resilient bunch that are often the first to volunteer to help others in their classes and their communities.

My Project

These materials will greatly improve the English classes at JHS. Each English teacher will have the ability to have the students show their knowledge through obvious, visual modes (either writing or drawing). This process will allow for all students to participate, which will increase their engagement. It will also allow the teacher to gain a better understanding of the comprehension level of the class.

Using these white boards will help transform our classrooms into fully engaged and interactive spaces.

Students will get to collaborate on the larger boards and work together to solve problems. The smaller boards will allow students to individually show their knowledge. In general, these supplies will greatly enhance our learning environments.

They will also be used in our foreign language classrooms for German. These students will get to practice their German writing in both individual and group settings.
