Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently teach students who have autism. The school I teach at is in a low-income community. Given the fact that my students have a moderate to severe disability they do require sensory materials to meet their needs while at school. My students are in a self-contained class for all of their academic subjects because not only do they have autism but they also have a moderate learning disability which requires me to individualize student instruction to meet their learning needs. The students in my classroom not only have to overcome their learning deficits but also have to work around their orthopedic needs. Unfortunately, my class does not receive sufficient amount of funds to cover academics and orthopedic needs for all of my students.
My Project
My students need 21st-century technology to help them learn in our technology-based environment. The students in my class are visual learners and require lots of visuals for them to retain information for extended periods of time. Therefore, I am asking for a document camera so my students can be fully engaged in the lessons that I present to them. I know that with a document camera I will be able to display worksheets on the board for all of my students to see from their desk. A document camera will also give me the ability freeze a document and display in on the board, so my students can interactively work together on the same paper.
