My students not only speak one language they speak two! These young ELLs (English Language Learners) students are developing their English vocabulary through speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The students are immersed in an English surrounding at school but oftentimes, when they go home, there is limited English spoken. At home, they do not have access to English resource.
Some of my students are being exposed to English for the first time.
My ELL students are so eager to become proficient in the English language, as many of them face barriers at school because of it. They are driven, young learners, to become successful students like the peers around them.
My Project
In this project I have included multiple visual supports, digital and organization tools, to help my students easily access the learning. The first thing in my project is a 12 month subscription to BrainPOP ESL. BrainPOP is a digital tool that students and teachers can use that is specific to what they need. It can enhance learning with audio and visual support for students to have a first language other than English.
I also included the following visual aids: a teachers whiteboard easel, magnetic sentence strips, magnetic file folders, a giant timer, and magnetic displays.
These will support my students, grades K-5, in enhancing their levels of the four domains of an English Learner- reading, writing, listening, and speaking!
