My students will tell you they "are here to become LEADERS, READERS, WRITERS, & MATHEMATICIANS"!.
We are 10 diverse students who spend the majority of our day together in our rather cramped classroom.
We are first, second, fourth and fifth grade students who have severe emotional impairments. Most of us also struggle academically and it is not always easy for them to express the way they feel appropriately. My students all have IEPs and many have organizational needs. Most of my students are visual learners and need the visual reminders to independently pace themselves, recognize how much time they have left on a task or activity, and remember what will be happening next. Visual timers provide the best way for these learners to more effectively use their time.
My Project
Visual timers would be used in my classroom for every activity, every day. Students will be using the Visual Timers to help them independently keep track of the time left during activities such as reading, writing, and math. Students will also independently use the timers to anticipate transitions, such as transitioning to another classroom or recess.
With this donation my students my students will be more independent, which is something they are all striving/begging for.
They currently do not have to skills or self confidence to independently complete academics at the same pace as their general education peers. By using a visual timer, students have a visual reminder to help pace them through their daily routines, just like we adults do with a watch.
