Help me give my students a better remote visual art learning experience using the HP Celeron Chromebook, seeing their work at a larger scale than on a smartphone, providing student office hours and meets, plus video staff meetings.
I teach visual art to grades five, six, and seven at a public middle school. My husband and I have raised our children in the town that I teach in. I have been passionate about keeping art in our schools for twenty-eight years by volunteering, teaching 'art-the-cart', and even building an art tech room with volunteers. I have taken advantage of technology that has brought the world of art closer to my students as well as higher education opportunities for myself. My own learning has benefited my students. I strive to be an example of an artist for my students. I currently co-teach with one of my first students. She was a first-grader then. And she is an amazing art teacher and artist.
The children in my school have benefited greatly from having visual art education and hands-on creative experiences consistently in their middle year lives.
My Project
As a remote visual art educator, I am requesting an HP Chromebook so that I can utilize every possible avenue to reach and provide art experiences and art education to a very varied population of middle school students. Currently, I am borrowing a family tablet and primarily using my iPhone loaded with Google apps to conduct my remote art classroom. A smartphone is not the best way to view student art and to communicate with 275 art students.
During this time I want to provide and grow a community for my students in fine arts and crafts that may turn what could have been a bad experience into a bright memory.
They are putting great thinking, time, and creativity into their assignments, finding their own ways to adapt to the situation that COVID 19 has placed them in. With an HP Chromebook, I will be able to see and respond to their artwork in a proper viewing scale.
I will also be able to communicate with the students and school staff using the video call features that the Chromebook will provide. I can have student office hours and stage live video events. These two things will increase my ability to meet the diverse needs of my students.
