My students need Motion Math. Motion Math is a visual, adaptive games to help every student master a growth mindset, grit and perseverance. Motion Math builds math fluency, conceptual understanding, and a love of challenge.
Student perspective should always come first. It’s my passion to engage students, involve them in ways that they own their learning. 21st century, redesigned, modern classrooms go beyond looking nice, instead, they consider researched, brain-friendly, ready to learn environments.
The physical makeup of the space in terms of actual furniture used to be desks in rows to prepare kids for lines in factories, but our classroom has been transformed; students spend their day preparing for the skills of today’s world with a focus on problem solving, collaboration, engagement, and communication with others; a place where students can personally have a choice and voice in the what, how and why of demonstrating what they've learned.
Flexible, comfortable, user friendly, learning spaces are uniquely nontraditional. Tough questions must be asked. What works for the kids? How do they work best? Do kids like to lay on the floor, or would they prefer a small reading nook? How do they feel in the classroom, then create that space? Students connect to a student centered classroom and teacher when hard work, a growth mindset, goal setting, self efficacy and identity are at the forefront of learning.
My Project
Every student can learn math! If, you believe in yourself!
Math Motion is a digital and interactive platform for students to learn about math in an innovative learning model that playfully teaches students the conceptual foundations of math with interactive visuals.
All games are aligned with rigorous content standards for students to track their level of understanding. My students will learn how to visualize and apply math concepts, plus gain a more positive attitude towards math. Increasing their learning potential.
My students have been able to experience Motion Math during our trial period and their engagement and collaboration is astounding. Students have said to me, "Wow, I can feel my brain synapses firing! My brain is growing." Another student was so engrossed in his learning, he lost track of time, and couldn't believe that it was time to stop Math and go to Library... "But, I don't want to stop!", he said. The buzz in the room is contagious and students are excited to get started right away and experience their own math success like their classmates.
Jo Boaler, Professor of Mathematics Education, Stanford Graduate School of Education, Motion Math advisor and author of "Mathematical Mindsets" has been quoted saying that Motion Math is "A wonderful resource that shows students the visual and creative nature of math. Source - motionmathgames.com
