My students are diverse learners with a large number of these students in our general education classes having Individualized Education Plans. We strive to include all students in all levels of classes. My students span all levels of learning, all levels of reading and writing abilities, as well as many different learning styles.
I strive to keep my classroom an environment of inquiry-based learning and discovery, and I am a promoter of inclusion in the general education classroom.
These students have many needs that are crucial to being successful adults. These students can accomplish so much with great teachers and great resources.
My Project
The 13 year old mind is an interesting place. They are conflicted about being a kid and being too cool. Because of their social development they are often afraid of what others will think when they speak out in class. This project is meant to get them out of their comfort zone, but with me putting myself out there. If I can put on a persona of these people from American History perhaps they will be more willing to put themselves out there.
When students know that you care enough to do something grand, they are more likely to listen and remember.
To some these may not sound like a typical history class, but the truth is that they will remember this more than the reading, quizzes, tests, or notes they take.
For students that wish to join in I have included period hats for students to try as well.
