Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our fine arts magnet school is located in a vibrant and diverse community. Although we are in a high poverty district, our school has been able to retain our fine arts magnet status. However, it has been a challenge to find the funding for exciting and up-to-date learning materials.
100% of the students who attend our school are on free and reduced price lunch.
We have a highly diverse immigrant population. As a choice school, students from many different backgrounds and countries attend our fine arts program.
It would be a wonderful learning opportunity for my students to study diversity and multiculturalism around the world. Help my students become aware citizens in a multicultural society!
My Project
I have requested a continents activity chest, multicultural books to explore other cultures and customs, and an up-to-date globe so my students can study other cultures. My students will be able to research and learn more about the people from different countries. In turn, they'll be able to share that new knowledge with other students and family members.
Students often don't understand that different cultures are simply different. By providing lessons and activities about diversity and multiculturalism, students will have exposure to ideas and views different from their own. These resources will provide students the opportunity to create, see, and read about others in a way they can understand.
This project is important because students should learn about other cultures besides their own.
The resources in this project will give my students opportunities to do so in engaging, authentic ways. The multicultural materials will help open up the world to my students.
