Visiting the Kusama Exhibition at the NYBG this Spring/Summer
I need financial assistance with transportation costs, hotel lodging, a membership ticket and food costs to go to NYC to visit the NYBG and the new Kusama exhibition.
My students are eager, bright, and, like all students, excited to experience all the current learning that this 21st century can bring them. They love the visual arts lessons each week, walking in with huge smiles and open hearts. My students are global learners and are excited at the endless array of learning that we do in the art room, discovering how art connects to a society and to life.
Inquisitive, creative, artistic and technology-savvy---yes, this describes my student population!
I provide a visual arts education to over 400 students weekly in grades K-6. As an educator of over 32 years, I am always on a quest to teach my students skills that will help them both in school and in life beyond. My students love discovering the art of ancient Egypt and exploring the rich colors and patterns of Islamic art. They are truly a joy to teach!
My Project
I'm a teacher and an artist, and one way that I get myself and my students really stoked on art is when I introduce them to a new artist or technique through my first-hand experiences and travels.
I am so thrilled, truly beyond belief that Kusama, the Polka Dot Princess, a female artist who has always intrigued and inspired me, will be exhibiting her art at the New York Botanical Gardens, another venue that is so exhilarating and fun to visit as an artist.
It is a spectacular world, and bringing the two of them together will truly be a once in a lifetime experience for me. Oh, how much I will learn and how inspired I will be!
I can't wait to share my joy with my students. I will share history, photos, and resources, and my students will feel my love and joy. I need financial assistance, though, with the travel component. It will involve purchasing a member ticket at the NYBG, train travel, food, and overnight accommodations in a NY hotel. I can spend two days at the exhibition if I am so moved or visit other NYC museums.
I am excited beyond belief at this prospect! Kusama can so easily connect with both science and math with her vivid color schemes and geometric shapes. Go STEAM!
