Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine not being able to see. Then imagine that there are not enough materials available to meet your needs. This is the challenge that my student faces every day.

My student is a 7 year old 2nd grader who is also blind and motivated.

She is fearless and uninhibited. She is inspiring to her teachers, classmates (all 24 of them) and everyone she comes in contact with. She is one of a kind in my Title 1 school in Colorado.

My Project

Having materials to help my other 24 students understand the daily challenge my blind student faces will help them to become even more helpful to her daily needs. An MP3 recorder will allow her to take her braille work and turn it into podcasts that are available for all to hear. Just having more braille books available (she currently has 8 in my room) will help her continue to increase her reading level and knowledge.

I am truly inspired by this child and want to give her more opportunities to succeed.

She is so motivated to learn that I want to feed that hunger as best I can with the limited resources I can find for her. This will enable her to feel more like her peers as well as helping her peers to better understand her "disability." Any donation will truly be greeted with an excitement like no other, by her classmates, who want her to succeed and by the student herself.
