My Students

My students are bright, eager to learn and very energetic. They are full of questions and willing to work to find them. Many are college bound (often first in their families) and they are proud of their work.

COVID-19 has emphasized the hardships many of my students face.

Socioeconomic differences are stark but with projects like those from DonorsChoose, I can make things more equal for these students. Our community helps support our students and my goal is to help students support the community in return!

These students are inexperienced in scientific technique and often feel at a disadvantage because of this. My classroom is student success oriented. We try to find out “WHY?”

My Project

In chemistry, calculations are the name of the game. Most of the time I let my students share calculators because it has been more frugal. Our district has banned (rightfully so) the sharing of equipment between students due to COVID-19.

My students frequently cannot afford a personal calculator and I allow my calculators to go home.

This especially true for standardized tests like the ACT, SAT and PSAT. The calculators are a stepping stone to success and it's an emotional experience to give a student an experience in which they are trusted. Calculators are used EVERY class period and go home EVERY day.
