Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from various backgrounds. Their socioeconomic status varies. My students are curious learners. Our school is a Title I school, with limited resources for our very special population of students.
My students have intellectual disabilities, but that does not stop them from trying their best and learning as much as they can.
They are capable of understanding their surroundings, and they constantly want to explore their world. They enjoy learning and work so hard every single day. They are inspiring.
My Project
We are requesting an iPod touch to run the VR programs we are learning about. Virtual reality is an immersive experience that every student should experience.
We can go on field trips and experience concerts and musical experiences, without ever leaving the classroom.
This is important for many reasons. Transportation costs and admission fees make field trips an impossible dream most of the time.
Many of my students have sensory issues and social anxiety. This can make field trips overwhelming. These kits will allow for exploration of museums on our terms. We can take breaks as needed, we can be loud, and we can touch see everything. We can also take trips to places we would never be able to normally go - such as Mars! Music is a much more amazing experience when students can see it performed. Students can immerse themselves in concerts and musical performances using virtual reality. Imagine virtually traveling to exotic places, then drawing the amazing sights and landmarks! When students are given the opportunity to draw out their experiences they retain and learn more.
Within 12 months students will increase their STEAM knowledge and proficiency with hands on learning materials.
These kits will open up a whole new world for my students.
