My Students

The students at my school are eager to learn, digital natives, and are developing a growth mindset. They have positive attitudes and an eagerness to learn and be better.

Our school’s focus has been on building the ‘grit’ of each student and unlocking each student's full potential.

Grit is a mindset of growth that will enrich the students lives, it takes practice and time to develop and grow. With this characteristic embedded into their lives, students will be able to persevere through difficult circumstances, in order to succeed in the life goals that they have set.

I have marveled at how this mindset has enhanced each of the students lives as they learn that they can do hard things. students learn through failure and reflection. As students struggle they look to their peers for support, thus there is a wonderful sense of community united by our students at our school. Students, guided by our staff, lift each other up and grow individually and together as they do.

My Project

I need a way to connect to my students when they or I am home due to the virus. I need a way to be able to record educational videos for my students and/or to be able to in real time teach them. I teach math and students learn best by watching, in real time, while asking questions as I go over how to complete various math problems. Videos are great, but this would give me the ability to increase learning and better help my students. It's difficult to show this on digital platforms. As I work out the problems my students can ask me questions and then I can edit and modify the problems as we go. I would love to enhance their learning with different colored pens to emphasize and show important procedural steps. Also, For students that cannot afford their own, I would like to provide them with a calculator they can use at home. This will help them learn the content better with easy accessibility to an essential tool.
