High Need Rural 4th Grade Charter school classroom in need of technological advance to learn about the US!

We are in our first semester of start up. Our focus is technology and learning "outside the box". Currently we have 215 students with 32 in 4th grade. We would like to use hands-on, real life experiences to teach SS.

Rather than rely on textbooks to learn about the regions of the US, we'd like to pair our classroom with classrooms around the US using the Acer Aspire Netbook. Using an interview process with email and video chat, students will gather information about the other 49 states from students in other 4th grade classrooms. In the process they will teach the students about Louisiana. Through a postcard exchange, students will be able to create a postcard that represents Louisiana to share with their paired class.

Our school is a title one school in the pine woods of Northeast Louisiana. This area has been hit hard by the economic crises. The top three major employers have moved out of the region leaving a high unemployment rate behind. These students need all the advantages we can give them!
