As a teacher who is a creative thinker, I want to instill that creativeness in my scholars. Every morning, I greet each kiddo with "our class handshake" that they created and voted on and let them know they are valued and respected in my haven.
There are 498 students in K-5 at our growing elementary school.
Class sizes are large and continue to increase with the increasing influx of students in our district. There are 25 kids in my class. My students are from various ethnicities, backgrounds, and cultures.
As a professional, I want to continue my education and learn to impact my students and set them up for success.
My Project
My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in technology. Technology and education are changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom use technology in their learning such as completing research, playing interactive games, and fostering teamwork.
This iPad will provide connections with people globally through Skype in the classroom!
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, e-learning has been implemented and this is a crucial need in order to expand our resources and use technology to the fullest potential. Class field trips, science experiments, and social interactions are now distanced. Google Hangouts, classrooms and other Google resources are now implemented to demonstrate the learning of my students.
Students' learning will be enhanced because of the interactions with scientists in Antarctica, conversing with other students across the globe, and facilitating relationships. My scholars will learn about other cultures, traditions and encourage inquiry. This digital tool will provide "virtual field trips" with community members we would not otherwise be able to learn from. Students' first-hand encounters with animals in other parts of the globe (arctic penguins, kangaroos and environmental landscapes of Australia, and other parts of the world) are made possible because of this technology and learning opportunities!
In addition to Skype in the classroom, the iPad will be used to engage students in interactive science apps and learning how to code. Coding is a new love of children in the upper grades. This is a tool to start the love of coding within our class and initiate an after school club.
