Our students are open minded, inclusive, and dedicated. Our school is in located in a rural area, but we are identified as a city of low socioeconomic status. Our students are forward thinkers and natural leaders. We have many motivated youth leadership groups on campus; robotics, student council, peer to peer support groups, various sports and a noteworthy drama program. Our school has many returning graduates who assist in mentoring current students. They can be found on campus as guest speakers, coaches, and even current teachers.
Our students' connection to our school community continues long after graduation.
The positive impact made for each individual on our campus is echoed by the amount of graduates who return to work with current students. Many alumni are teachers, coaches, mentors, guest speakers, and community partners. Our students continue to share their successes even after they receive their diplomas. We hope that this club will continue to foster positive peer to peer and student to teacher relationships.
My Project
The creation of this club will offer the opportunity for our students to access expensive gaming technology. The Quest Virtual Reality system will offer a physical activity that does not seem like exercise. Through game play our students will improve motor skills, physical fitness, reduce mental stress, and create positive interaction with peers and staff.
Having an a VR Club will help strengthen our school culture and community.
We are asking for one system to begin our "Quest". An additional silicone face shield and antibacterial wipes are needed to ensure proper hygiene when sharing the VR system. The requested hand-grips are needed to prevent damage and injury by keeping the controllers secured to the player's hands. While the Quest headset has an internal battery that is rechargeable, the hand controllers run on standard double AA's that will need to be replaced often. Rechargeable batteries will ensure continued game play and make the club environmentally friendly. The Chrome cast will allow for multiple spectators to view the player's experience when connected to an external projector, which we have. Alternative resources will be used to purchase games as they are not available through Donor's Choose providers.
