My students are full of life, love to explore and are eager to learn new things. On a daily basis' my students are fighting to be "cultured" in a city that is one of the most diverse cities in the United States. We are located just outside of Houston, Tx in Katy.
Many of my students don't get to experience the life styles of over seas vacations, so when we visit a new culture region of the world, I like to incorporate activities that allow them to experience these places.
My students get so excited when new technology is introduced and even more excited when they get to "travel from their chair" as I like to say.
My Project
Teaching students to be open minded towards other countries cultures is a daily experience in my classroom. Allowing students to not only see, but embrace different cultural features in a virtual reality setting, will enhance their understandings of people who are different than them. I will use these Google Cardboard Headsets to create lesson that allow my students to stand in the ancient city of Machu Picchu, when we are in our Latin America unit or to be in the middle of a Diwali celebration in India, when we visit our South Asia unit.
Students will be 100% engaged in their learning, which will only improve their understandings of the content but, also make them more well rounded mentally.
These traits will follow them throughout their lives and not just end once they leave my classroom.
