Virtual Reality At Our Fingertips

Help me give my students a virtual reality gaming system so we can take virtual field trips during the restrictions of the pandemic.

My Students

I teach Special Education in an urban, public neighborhood school in Erie, PA. The children and families in our school community are a diverse cross section of many different cultures, ethnic groups, and languages.

When working with young people, there are times you see results in 10 seconds, and there are times you won't see them for 10 years.

Either way, keep planting those seeds of character; eventually, they bloom!

Our life skills and autistic support students have many challenges facing them, now more than ever. Our district has decided to adopt a hybrid model which includes virtual and in-person learning. We will need to keep our social distance during the in-person learning. With this project I’m hoping to expand the virtual learning resources in our classroom.

My Project

This pandemic has been hard for everyone but especially hard for my students. They do not like changes in the routine and not being in person one week and at home the next did not help either. I am hoping with the use of the virtual gaming system we can still participate in community based outings without having to leave the building.

The virtual environment created by a Oculus is stimulating for students who may feel unmotivated by a traditional classroom setting.

The Oculus will provide a way for their work to be interactive and will increase their focus and motivation. This will help to increase the forms of learning available to the students.
