My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. They have embraced our school-wide culture of literacy to the fullest. Any classroom you set foot in, you will see books in the children's hands.
I teach at a Title I school in Newark, Delaware where 100% percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.We are a k-5 school with kids that come from a variety of different economic backgrounds.
Many of my students receive backpack meals for the weekends. We provide rigorous academics and a safe learning environment. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college, as well as life.
As a teacher in a low-income school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things exciting and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Novels are used in my classroom to teach the curriculum. The kids need to be able to refer back to the story for text evidence. Due to being out of school for COVID, the kids don't have the novels to take home with them. Having the book, the kids will be able to focus more on the text and my lesson. The students will be more engaged and able to supply details from the story when doing written work. At this time, I project my Kindle version of the book so the kids can read along but there is no substitute for having the actual book.
We will have indoor recess when it becomes cold and wet.
