My Students

I am a second-grade teacher. My students come to school with enthusiasm and excitement. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. I aim to provide a creative and meaningful learning environment to make sure my students are academically successful. I teach at a Title I, low-income school district in Mississippi where the majority of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. In addition, many students are working hard to learn the English language.

Despite so many setbacks personally, my students are eager to learn and do their best.

I try to be creative in heightening their learning experience through research and hands-on opportunities.

My Project

Hello Lit Con is literacy professional development aligned to 21st-century skills, tools, and mindsets. Jen Jones trains schools and districts all over the country in best practices for Guided Reading, Running Record Analysis, Reading Workshop, Higher Level Thinking, Vocabulary Development and the Reading Standards. I will use these strategies to help grow and challenge my second-grade readers. This will benefit my students by growing deeper in their reading and being able to apply new strategies as they read. I particularly love that most of these strategies are higher-level thinking skills which so many young readers struggle with each year. This will help me reach each reader in a new, exciting way! My students will also have a better reading teacher as a result of this professional development.
