Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have 22 enthusiastic, fun, and compassionate scholars. They care about our class family and individual well-being. We are completely virtual and have built such a solid bond, we miss our interactions between the smallest breaks throughout the day, often checking in on one another before, during, and after class. You can catch us dancing randomly throughout our learning sessions. We just love music. We celebrate every win through our teacher spotlights and student shout-outs. Our families work hard to support their students while maintaining a busy schedule with ever-changing work and learning conditions. We also love-on each other when things get tough. My students enjoy virtual learning and engage in student-centered learning. They use the zoom features well and are so flexible, even when technology isn’t being friendly. Their perseverance and stamina are impressive. They show up early and enjoy staying after class to chat. They encourage me, always making sure I am fed and have my tea each morning and afternoon. They check on my children and I enjoy having their parents for dance sessions. Virtual hugs and brain kisses are important to keep us all feeling warm and fuzzy in these uncertain times.

My Project

My students are learning in a distance learning setting. They are issued Chromebooks. They are on the computer throughout the day for 5 hours. They are expected to move between tabs, create and submit assignments digitally. It is difficult to navigate the mouse pad. The computer mice will relieve their hand fatigue. Since they are at home with their families, students are exposed to background noise during learning. With the use of headphones, my scholars will have the opportunity to remain focused during whole group instruction, small group instruction, and independent learning.
