The students at my school come from a wonderfully diverse set of backgrounds. My school is located in the heart of a mid-sized city where there is such a vast mix of poverty and affluence. Our school serves all of these families.
Our school is a Title I school because many of our families are living in poverty.
Many of the students are not afforded many experiences outside of what they see at school. The school is very old and in need of updates to serve these students to the highest level.
My Project
Like many schools throughout the United States, my school district has moved to virtual learning for the next several weeks due to public health concerns. I want to continue to deliver high quality instruction for my Special Education students by creating videos of myself teaching the curriculum.
Creating instructional videos for my students will allow me to be able use my knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovations inside my Virtual Special Education classroom.
The instructional video creation will allow me to asses learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students and colleagues. Additionally, instructional video creation will help me facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity; design and develop digital-age learning experiences and assessments; model digital-age work and learning; promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility; and engage in professional growth and leadership opportunities that will help me grow as an educator.
I plan to develop a series of instructional videos that can be used for years to come to connect with students virtual learning days, extended sickness or other unforeseen circumstances that prevent students from being in the classroom. While there are many instructional videos online, students respond better to videos from a familiar teacher who uses consistent terminology and teaching methods.
