Help me give my students tangible learning tools to enhance their virtual learning experience plus, the ink and the lamination will allow me to create books and other materials from home.
I work with an exceptional group of young men and women. My students are in grades six through eight (multi-grade) setting for students with moderate to severe disabilities. The difference between my students and other, same grade-level students is their cognitive ability. Due to either trauma, illness, or birth related disability, my students have a more challenging journey in school and throughout their lives.
Covid-19 has taken a toll on all of us, but students' with disabilities are suffering the most.
Many of my students have gone from receiving hand-over-support in the classroom, to sitting in a bedroom by themselves. If these students had the option of being safe in-person, they would be in the brick and mortar setting. However, due to them being immuno-compromised, the only option is to be virtual.
Given the impossible situation my students have been put in, they work extremely hard everyday. They are not perfect, but they are wonderful, funny, intelligent, hard-working, unique, and they are mine. I am surprised daily by the feats that they have already accomplished. I cannot imagine how much they could benefit and continue to prosper with this amazing gift. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
My Project
The students in my class have disabilities, but the disabilities do not have them. They are very smart and creative but they need some extra help. Virtual learning can be successful but without tools my students can touch, it is extremely difficult.
Having these items will allow my students to feel like they are more involved in their education.
In addition, learning new concepts will be more attainable for each student. Using manipulatives is a key component in the classroom. The students need these items to learn the way they learn best. We have had many setbacks this year due to COVID-19. These materials will take their learning to virtually, a new level.
