Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day, my students eagerly wait outside my door for the opportunity to learn new words, skills and knowledge. My students are active, engaging, curious and kind but most people at our school would have a hard time seeing these wonderful attributes because they have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Instead others see our students screaming, jumping, wandering off and being unable to learn like other kids. When Students enter the world of our classroom, we make it a safe place to discover, create and learn with the goal of allowing all of my students develop the skills to work with general education peer. Our class is designated as being a Special Day classroom for students with disabilities but to us I look at it as an Unique Learning Environment for all Learners.
Our school is found in one of the richest parts of California but fortunately the wealth in the area has not been reflected in the social economic disparity found at my school.
100% of the students in my class qualify for free lunch, my families can not afford extras and as a result a majority of my students have not had the benefit extra therapy.
My Project
I want to create what was lost when the COVID-19 hit California. I need resources that will allow me to create a virtual classroom for everyone one of my students. I need a laptop that doesn't crash and is able to use the chrome platform. Currently I had to leave my laptop in my classroom, which with school being closed in is not accessible. Im writing this on my phone because I have no other way to teach for my students. Given the support with donors like you, I can have the means to give each student a headphones with mics, and quality audio/visual presentations. My students are scared, frustrated, and out of sorts with the situation in California besides having special needs. Help me make Kindergarten a special experience for them in my virtual classroom.
All of these tools will make the production end of my virtual classroom as great as my physical classroom.
