Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a fourth grade teacher in Abbeville, SC. I could greatly enhance my students understanding and mastery of our standards as well as experiences with an LCD projector and projector table. I would use the LCD projector and table in conjunction with my laptop computer and ETV's United Streaming to provide more information on specific topics and video clips to provide visual examples and virtual field trips. The virtual field trips would be extremely important to my students because many of them do not travel too far out of our county much less to the beach, the mountains or other destinations. In Science, we study different biomes and habitats of animals;these virtual field trips would help students visualize the animals homes and comprehend what animals would need to survive. The LCD projector and table would help my students and I track and record the weather for 1 month as our state standards require. It would also enable us to research and track severe weather events (i.e. hurricanes, tsunami's, tornadoes, etc). I would also use the LCD projector and table to teach students how to search the Internet for specific topics. After this lesson, students would be able to use classroom computers to research information for their Social Studies reports, Science Fair projects and other assignments. It is important for me to teach the research methods and allow students to use classroom computers because many of them do not have computers at home nor do they have transportation to the public library.
