My Students

We are a large middle school and have a very diverse student population of almost 800 students. Our students love school. We hope to give them opportunities that will encourage them to be creative and work to be successful. We have one of the largest, poorest and most diverse student populations in our state. Many are homeless, with some staying in family shelters.

Our awesome middle school students have special social, emotional and academic growing to do, and it's our job to support them.

My Project

Too much screen time and not enough reading time. Our students are asking for a book club where they can read actual books. These will be books that they can keep at home. Our book club students will pick up their choice curbside at the school and read it at home. Then they will complete assignments from a choice board (book reports, dioramas, book trailers, etc.) for incentives.

There is nothing more frustrating that having students begging to read and not having access to the books they want.

Hybrid and remote learning is stressful, and we hope this fun book club will bring a little joy to our students that love and miss reading.
