Help me give my students art supplies to make individual art kits that will include materials to support an oil pastel, sharpie, printmaking, and a clay unit.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students strive to have Tiger PRIDE and to learn every day. With COVID-19 changing learning from the classroom to their living room, these students' education now is investigation, inquiry, and problem solving at the kitchen table. Even with this constant change in their lives, these amazing middle school through high school students are putting their best foot forward and engaging actively in their education.
With over 90% of students coming from poverty, they are constantly moving from different friends' homes or other relatives' houses every day.
Pushing through this instability is one example of these students' determination.
My Project
The virtual art rooms of online school during our communities' struggle with COVID look like nothing we have ever seen before. The realities of virtual learning means that students can't go into a physical classroom to interact with all of the supplies collected over years. Instead, they are completely reliant on what is accessible to them at home, and for the students who live in poverty conditions that often times means a single, random colored crayon, and a half used pencil found in the junk drawer.
This project aims to give students access to the necessary art materials which may be missing from their home environment.
This will keep them questioning, analyzing, and creating in the visual arts with essential art supplies. Building on technical skills, visual literacy, expression, and personal reflection through creating projects from their homes.
