This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Mrs. R. from Magnolia AR is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need ball seats, clipboards, a 6-seat bench and clipboards to learn and be successful without being forced to stay seated in a chair, behind a desk, for multiple hours.

My students are full of great personalities and an abundance of energy! They love to learn in creativity ways. We often have brain breaks in class, and it truly brings them out of their shells. I love how they find our classroom a safe place. It’s a place that they feel comfortable with being themselves and also at peace with sharing their needs or concerns.
The majority of my students come from households of families that work multiple minimum wage jobs and long hours.
Therefore, they have little to no patience for a high energy child when they arrive home. I WANT the energy! With my flexible seating, students will be engaged in learning, every day, physically and mentally, and they will use their energy in a positive setting where it is welcomed.
Action based learning is my goal. During my years of teaching, I have noticed that many factors change each year, according to my students for that particular year. Each student has different needs and different interests, but one factor has remained the same, and that is that students are much more successful and attentive when they are out of their seats, on their feet, and not in a hard plastic seat.
Flexible seating and action based learning allows students to be in a comfortable setting while learning.
There is currently no research that states that students learn better behind a desk. Instead, multiple research studies have found that the opposite is true. Action Based Learning is based on the brain research that strongly supports the link between movement and learning. We know that healthy, active students, make better learners.
I would like to provide my students with every possible resource for them to be successful. Flexible seating will allow me to achieve that goal. We need ball seats, clipboards, a 6-seat bench and clipboards. The Flex-Space Balance Balls are perfect for active students. Students will be able to rotate to a different seating arrangement each week. I am excited about putting this plan into action.
