Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need your help! They come into the classroom every day with great spirit. They are full of energy and have shown that they come to school ready to learn each day!
As part of a vibrant STEM program where my students are getting constant instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, they also have the opportunity to learn MUSIC!
Given this opportunity, they are enthusiastic when they are told they have the chance to learn a musical instrument. My students are very curious about musical instruments, and they simply just cannot wait to get their hands on them.
Most of my students come from diverse backgrounds and many speak other languages such as Spanish and Mandarin. Also, more than half of the student body come from low-income households. With our school offering so many different programs to benefit students growing up in today's society, I am truly appreciative to be able to teach them an elective that is so tactile. With that, I am truly inspired that they are able to stay engaged in a music classroom with a positive mindset! I strive to give my students musical opportunities just like any other program in the Bay Area!
My Project
Our orchestra program is growing! However, we need more instruments so that we can offer music classes to more students! Throughout the past couple years, we have been running out of string instruments. Therefore, class sizes are smaller than normal. By acquiring new violins and violas, we can add to our inventory to have more students participating in our orchestra middle school program.
Violas are the highest need!
Sadly, we have been limited in offering viola lessons for students because we only have a few in our program. By acquiring these new ones, our orchestra's overall sound will be more balanced with middle voices so that we don't just have violins in our string orchestra.
For the past couple years, we have been working hard to expand our concert band program. We luckily can offer multiple classes of band at this point. Now, we want to get orchestra up to speed. Right now, we only offer two classes and we want to be able to offer a third! These instruments will help us get there so that more students will be involved in the performing arts!
