Sometimes I can literally feel that I am 100% in my "sweet spot" in my career. I just don't know how a job could be more satisfying or rewarding. I have the privilege to help students learn, grow, perform, and create music every single day.
Although our school qualifies for the national free lunch program, and our students live in a very rural area without access to many aspects of the arts, our students realize they can achieve far greater than they first thought, face and overcome fears, and find light through music that will help them for the rest of their lives.
Our school was given student violins and they are being used by our 6th graders on a daily basis. The donation was amazing, and the students are learning the basics and even how to pluck a few basic songs, but the bows are falling apart and some of the bows are missing entirely. The students will be able to learn the proper technique of bowing and playing the violin with these bows. This will be a great start to replacing the missing violin bows and the bows that are completely useless because of their poor condition. Students will learn about the elements of music, music history, great violin players, and different musical styles through playing the violins. They will also get the joy of performing, but we need each student to have a properly functioning bow of their own with which to perform.
