Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income school with many students having little to no support academically at home. The students face many challenges such as language barriers and economic barriers. I want my students to succeed in life and, therefore, I strive to get all the materials needed that my students will need in the classroom setting.
My students face disadvantages in their daily lives they shouldn't have to face them in the school.
The school serves students who are economically disadvantaged, with over 50% qualifying for free or reduced-priced lunch. I would like to spark enthusiasm for learning about computers, math, and science and encourage them into careers that otherwise most wouldn't even get a chance to talk about. At times classroom activities are the only exposure they get as they wouldn't see it in their daily lives.
My Project
The materials will help me organize and label our classroom environment and help maintain a structured/comforting environment. It will also allow me to personalize items for students and create additional materials to enhance my lessons. Allowing for personalized items ensures that students are able to identify what materials they can use and can't use during COVID-19 to ensure everyone's wellbeing.
The materials can also be used to create gifts for students especially during COVID-19 where most of us are feeling isolated from our peers.
It will lift students spirits and help them stay engaged and want to be part of our classroom.
