Help me give my students a heat press, vinyl in three colors, a protective sheet, vinyl letter remover, and a tee square it to find the center of a shirt.
I teach almost 500 kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students in Kansas. 35% of my students receive a free or reduced-price breakfast and/or lunch. There are also many special education students and ELL students (English language learners). I try to find new and interesting ways to help my students learn using music and other subject areas.
I want to start a club where some of my students can help make t-shirts for a service project for the school-wide reading incentive.
My Project
We are requesting heat transfer vinyl in black, white, and glitter champagne, and a heat press. After making a t-shirt design we will cut out the designs using the vinyl we have requested. Weed the design and remove any vinyl that will not be pressed on the shirt. We will then use the heat press to iron on the design. The tee square it, protective sheet, and vinyl letter remover are all tools that will be used while pressing the designs on the t-shirts or if any mistakes happen.
My students have helped me make t-shirts before and for this project, we will be working on making shirts for our school-wide reading incentive program.
Students stay in during recess to help with these special projects. We would be so excited to make shirts for these projects and allow students to use their creativity for this community service project.
