Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the bravest students on campus because of the many challenges they undertake and the growth they make from the first day of school to the last. They perform in front of different audiences over 4 times a year and never hide from the stage. My favorite moment with them is the end of the year because of the stories they share about presenting in front of other classes without having any fears.
Sometimes it's not about what kind of person they are in my class, but what kind of human they become in their own lives.
My students have the biggest smiles and friendliest attitudes at the school. We promote and welcome anyone who seems different or "weird" on campus. We collaborate with other groups on campus and help create a positive environment on campus. Often times, my students would prefer to live at school than to go home...we actually have had slumber parties on the stage! Haha! The theatre department is a place to have friends, a family, a purpose, and to learn skills to give them a future career.
My Project
It is the start of a new year, and our theatre department is in need of a bonding opportunity and something to make everyone feel like a family. I want to have students feel pride walking into the classroom, the school, and their neighborhood. An easy way students do this is with the clothes that they wear, but their pride is even stronger when they make something themselves. We would love to purchase a Silhouette Cameo Vinyl Printer as well as some vinyl in the school colors in order to design our own theatre class and club t-shirts to wear them with pride!
Our Falcon Theatre Pride t-shirts will display our theatre's new logo, an inspirational quote or a drawing that a student will design, and individual student's names on the back of their shirt!
These shirts will be screaming "I am a proud theatre student, and I am excited to come to school every day."
Working with outside companies, ordering a shirt like this would cost almost $25 per shirt. With these requested supplies, all we would need to do is buy a $5 shirt, I would use the computer program to set up and print the designs, and then students will come in to do the final heat press of the designs onto their shirts. Through this experience, they will learn that hard work and patience makes the final product much more meaningful.
