This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a safe haven, a place where kids can work toward a common goal. Our students need somewhere safe to be, a place off of the tough, local streets. Kids at our school learn commitment, teamwork, and pride as well as academic skills.
I am the 7-12 chorus teacher as well as the assistant marching band director.
I also work with the beginning band students in grades four-six. Our students are vibrant and love to be the center of attention. All of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch, and there are after school activities that serve extra meals so kids don't go hungry.
However, our budget is non-existent. Our building is old and hasn't been updated much since it was originally built in the early 1900s. Sounds like a great place for modern learners, right?
My Project
My student have been very interested in 3D design and printing, and we've been working in class on learning different computer programming. However, it's been a learning process and we've made some mistakes in printing larger-then-expected projects, so we need replacement filament to continue our 3D learning. My students are really enjoying watching their designs come to life.
We also need replacement ink for our classroom printer.
My room is, quite literally, on the opposite end of the building from any of the printers, so when I need to make one quick copy, it becomes an expedition of finding a copier that's not jammed and has paper. This ink will alleviate that chaos.
