I am a 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher at John P Altgeld Elementary School. Algeld Elementary School is located in Chicago, Illinois in a low-income area. I would like to create a Social Studies Video/Audio Learning Center for my students. I feel that the content of history can be overwhelming and difficult for youths to understand. However, I think that If I my students could watch some of the events on video while listening along with headphones it would help reinforce what they're learning. After listening to the video I would have them write in their journal what the portion of the video was about and what did they learn. I would also like to have tape recorders with headsets so that the I could create cassette tapes that the students can listen to while reading a book or whatever articles I have assigned for them to work on in the Social Studies Learning Center. This would be especially good for my slower readers and learners.
