My tiny school recently received community support to fund technology K-12. The funding we received allowed us to get computers, chromebooks, and smart projectors. Unfortunately, we do not have any video equipment for our students.
My students would be thrilled to be able to do projects in new ways!
My 7th grade students, chemistry, biology, and advanced science classes would all benefit from this new equipment.
My students come from many different types of backgrounds. Poverty is sadly more common than any one of us would like to accept. Farming is a way of life for many of my students. Others come from middle class families.
My students have varying levels of academic success and abilities. I hope this project will excite some of the students that often don't enjoy the traditional learning environment. This will allow all students to step outside of their previous norms and ultimately enhance their excitement about learning science!
My Project
These two camcorders will benefit my students because it will allow them to perform projects in ways they have never done before. Our school has recently received funding for computers, but we have no video equipment to use in our classrooms. I want my students to be able to make and edit videos for projects related to scientific phenomena.
With this equipment, students can record scientific demonstrations, perform and record skits or research projects, and use our current technology to edit the video before submitting the final drafts.
One project that comes to mind is an influential molecules project in chemistry. It is a chance for students to research the chemical and historical aspects of a molecule such as chloroform or nitro compounds. Napoleon's Buttons by Penny Le Couteur and Jay Burreson is a book I would use for this project. The book refers to 17 molecules that changed history.
