Video Or Podcasting Kit For Teacher And/Or Student Use
My students need a Flip video camera and a case to be able to videotape projects. They need to be able to create either a video or a podcast of their projects for several of their classes.
Do you remember the big old clunky 10 lb. VHS Camcorders of past years! We still have some. Recently we tried a FLIP and found this was the way to go for ease of student use and loading and editing onto a computer.
Our students are all ability levels from grades 9 to 12.
Our students may be in any one of our comprehensive high school's choice of courses from Automotive to Spanish to Cooking. Many of our teachers are assigning projects for our students to create their own video portfolio of their work. So, they need a way to film. Instead of the outdated ANALOG VHS CAMCORDERS, our students today need something digital and easy to use like the FLIP. So, by getting a FLIP and a PROTECTIVE CASE, we will be able to loan out to teachers or students this KIT that can be used to create a video or a PODCAST.
My Project
Everyone thinks today's students are so good at technology. But this is only if they have access to it and to use it. So many students can't afford their own digital cameras. And let's face it, not everyone can afford the more expensive cell phones with video capability if the students even have a cell phone. So, we hope to allow more students to be able to use technology, by providing them with access to a digital camera they can check out of the Library and take home. Or the teacher can check it out and take it on a field trip. Or to create their own work with the Digital Camcorder instead of using the older, time consuming, time sequential analog format videotaping that we have on the shelf. And they can create a podcast of their research for a place before a class goes on a field trip which they could then take with them on an IPOD or similar device. Then students will learn responsible and practical uses of the technology.
This project is more important now, because with the economy, our equipment and technology budget has been eliminated for the next school year.
It is important to keep providing students with the technology to be literate citizens in our rapidly evolving society where technology literacy is becoming a life skill that may be used in many areas of our lives. My hope is that this will allow our students to learn how to plan and create a video which they will feel proud to share with others.
