I currently teach two classes in career exploration to 8th grade students. I have guest speakers come into the classroom to explain their occupations which also gives the students the opportunity to ask questions about the vocation. Sometimes the speaker cannot speak to both of my classes because one class is held in the morning and the other in the afternoon. I am requesting a video camera so that I could tape the speaker and play it back for the other class. My goal is to create a library of occupations within my community for the students to view when a guest speaker is not available. Because of the limited time of my classes, field trips are not an option for my students. I could use the camera to visit employers and interview them for playback later in class. Sometimes, employers are not always available to come to the classroom but are willing to do an interview. A video camera would help bring the world of work into the classroom. The library that I hope to create with a camera would also be helpful for students who may become interest in a career or vocation and looking for research information. This information would be available at anytime. Having a video camera would be of great benefit to my students.
