Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school were over 70% of the students are socially and economically disadvantaged. Over 50% of the students are second language learners. Parent engagement is low and students come to school with varying levels of support.
My students are amazing.
They are like little sponges, eager to learn and soak up everything that is taught to them. They come to the classroom with a wealth of knowledge, but many times they have a hard time transferring their home language knowledge to academic English.
My Project
Fresh, new pens and markers bring so much excitement to the writing center. Being able to choose colorful pens when writing friendly letters or notes to their past teachers or friends enhances the writing experience for students.
These materials are items that are not supplied by the school and I would otherwise have to purchase with my own money.
My students deserve to have a variety of fresh, new tools that they can use to do their writing
My students will love the new whiteboards and erasers which they will use for spelling and math practice. Whiteboards are helpful when students need to show their work without shouting out the answers. It gives every student an opportunity to share what they know without the pressure of being wrong.
