This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are considered Title 1 school with all students receiving free and reduced lunch. We are one of the largest elementary schools with a higher poverty level than many others. Despite the socioeconomic status of our students, we provide them with highly effective instruction and opportunities to experience outside of their current circumstances.
I would describe my students as a caring bunch of innovative comedians with big personalities.
They are social butterflies with jokes for hours. During our lunch break where they really get to show off their quick wits. They notice any small change and enjoy sharing what they've learned so far and new ideas they've like to add
My Project
Every morning I gather my students on the carpet to kick off our day with the morning meeting! This time of the day is where we can enjoy team building activities, group discussions, and preparing their minds to begin the day on the right foot. We also do much of our math whole group instruction, read aloud, and presentations on the carpet as well.
My students are at the carpet frequently and it has become the central hub for many of our lessons and activities.
Our current carpet is on its last leg with threads dangling. Getting a new carpet would provide my students with more comfortable seating as they learn.
