My students need a Pet Emergency First Aid DVD and anatomy models to help visualize and understand the anatomy of dogs, cats, and horses as they strive for certification as a Veterinary Assistant.
Learning animal anatomy by written and reading studies alone can be difficult. With the wide variety of animal species, my students need to be able to work hands-on with the bodies of these different species if they are to understand how they function and look.
My students come from many different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common, their love for animals.
Each one is making a commitment to the welfare and health of animals as their future careers. Each of my students has a passion for animals and wants to go into different fields of animal science. The career options vary greatly, like in any medical field. A few of the fields my students would like to go into would be working with rescue groups and animal cruelty pets. Others want to take better care of their horses. Some want to work with small animals in Veterinary hospitals. No matter the location or field they wish to go into, they all show dedication to animal learning and a desire to be the best they can.
My Project
This is the first year we are offering this class and supplies for instruction are needed for this purpose. My inaugural students are eager to learn and being able to handle animals and veterinary equipment aids in the learning process. One of the best features of my brand new class, is the hands-on experience they receive. Where other schools may not have the capability to house or allow for much time with animals and equipment, my class does. Half of our class time is spent with this interaction, whether it be here in the classroom or at a Veterinary facility. Currently we have partnerships in place with several Veterinary clinics, Animal Services, and Heartworm/Flea companies and are constantly seeking more. My goal is to have a fully functional classroom with as much equipment and learning materials as possible. I want to be able to give my students a recreation of the environment they will be working in. This way they can smoothly transition into the workplace when they graduate.
As in all medical fields, being improperly trained can lead to serious health and safety risks.
Veterinary medicine is no exception to this rule. This technical field has developed over the years and as such, students seeking certification has become of paramount importance to the welfare and proper care of animals. My class will release into the workforce, Veterinary Assistants certified, with the knowledge and skill to perform all duties required of the field.
