This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at a Pre-K through 8th grade school located in South St. Louis. In a normal school year we have great needs to help provide an equitable education, but this year we will need to go the extra mile to help make sure our kids can learn safely!
My students work hard each day to overcome many of the difficult struggles of their lives and to ensure our school is a safe space for them to learn.
Middle is never easy and with the added stresses of this pandemic, it is certainly going to be that much more difficult.
My Project
Sixth graders are expected to transition from concrete understanding to more abstract understanding as they get into higher grade levels. However, sometimes, there is still a need to "see" in order to understand. With the magnetic filings and coordinate plane dry erase boards, as well as Scratch workbooks, we will make sure to focus on our priority standards this upcoming quarter. I know my students will be more successful by being able to visually see magnetic fields "in-person" (online). This will provide a concrete understanding which is more likely to create lasting understanding.
