Very Hungry Students- Government Shut Down, Impacts Food
Help me give my students snacks such as cookies, fruit snacks, crackers, breakfast bars, etc. The government shut down has impacted their food at home. So, they are extremely hungry.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from the most diverse school in the city. They have a variety of ethnic groups, classes, educational backgrounds, and learning styles. We are also honored to have a variety of abilities too. We serve students with multiple physical, mental, and emotional impairments. So, our students have a chance to learn with a true snapshot of humanity.
My students have joy to learn.
In the midst of water issues, budget cuts, and buildings closing, my students are determined to learn. The results of all of these conditions, there is now low morale among students and staff. The impact of these conditions is deeply impacting learning. Yet, they are working to overcome these odds and become successful.
My Project
My students have parents that work several jobs to meet needs. Despite that, they are still struggling to provide enough food for their children. Our city only has low paying jobs. Now, with the government shut down. It is harder for families to provide food. Many are unable to use the supports they received from the government for food. Therefore, having snacks available for my students that are extremely hungry, will be helpful! They can grab a breakfast bar or Pop Tart. They will be able to get chips or pretzels. The fruit snacks or cookies will be a quick boost of energy. Then, they can focus on learning, rather than being hungry. It's nearly impossible to focus on learning, when your stomach is grumbling and/or you have a headache. Their basic rights of having food, must be met.
