Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 19 third grade students in a predominantly low income community, where English is their second language. Although they derive from a neighborhood where they face many challenges, they come to school eager to learn and share their learning amongst one another. On a typical day in my classroom, the students spend a significant amount of time collaborating around the classroom. The students practice what they learned during the mini-lesson in partnerships. They challenge each other's thinking and celebrate one another's accomplishments while collaborating.
They are invested in their own learning and their peers' learning, as well.
They are the most deserving group of children, who appreciate and respect our classroom resources.
My Project
The VersaTiles will be utilized during my literacy centers where the students independently practice concepts that have been previously taught. The VersaTiles will meet the needs of my diverse learners and allow me to differentiate my instruction. These hands-on puzzles will reinforce concepts previously taught so that that my students could master or further their understanding in literacy development. My students will then self-check using an answer system that creates a safe learning environment and also increases student confidence. The activities are also aligned to state and national standards and will allow my students to build their literacy proficiency in a challenging and interactive way.
