My students are part of a community venturing from the comprehensive learning environment and experiencing an education attuned to their specific needs. As an independent study school, our diverse student body is a blend of unique individuals and instead of being lost in the classroom one-on-one educational relationships are developed between student, teacher and administrator.
Individuality is core to our ideology.
We are part of an academically competitive school district but while our neighboring comprehensive schools have abundant resources and parent involvement, as a smaller alternative school serving families from not only our district but neighboring communities, our financial needs require more outreach.
We have everyone: athletic superstars, academic luminaries, social butterflies, shy wallflowers, and wounded birds. Whatever reason our students are here for, they have one thing in common: comprehensive education did not meet their needs and they will do what they need to get the education they deserve.
My Project
Our learning environment integrates technology into our regular curriculum and blends pencil-to-paper work with online learning. By hosting information online and accepting student work through Google Drive and other learning platforms we keep pace with innovation in education. However, not all of my students have equal access to the technology required to do so and for some, our school provides their only access to computers and the internet.
Each student deserves the same opportunity to learn regardless of background or circumstance.
Chromebooks will be checked out to work on papers, projects, and assignments while they are here at school and Google Apps for Education will be used to enrich our students' academic careers daily. These Chromebooks will also be used regularly for standardized testing.
My students will venture into online learning, taking advantage of learning tools using these Chromebooks.
