This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The school to which I am employed is a Title I school located in the District of Dade County. The make-up of a Title I school includes students from a low socio-economic background, having various learning styles. All students under this program are provided free or reduced lunch. Students in this Title I school are on a new path as they get "On Board the A Train" to Healthy eating post COVID-19.
As the quote goes, "An apple a day helps to keep the doctor away" so why not start with something healthy for the body and mind?
My Project
If the body is not healthy and whole then the mind will lack, which can impact student’s academic focus.
Having a healthy mind and body is vital when it comes to students learning.
With that and post COVID -19 in mind, becoming a Vegan is trending at the top of healthy eating habits.
Therefore, I believe that now is a great time for me to expose my students to ahealthier way of eating. I have already purchased a few healthy drinks and snacks for them, and the outcome has been amazing...they had no idea they were eating organic snacks.
The days are over for me to reward students with unhealthy treats. I no longer want to continue watching students eat unhealthy snacks that are contributing to them being undernourished and overweight. I have experienced many students coming to class and sharing with peers that they had just eaten their favorite meal of the day, “hot chips" or some type of candy, washed down with a sugary drink for breakfast. The unhealthy junk food is exiting HERE! Come Aboard and Load the Healthy Snacks onto the A TRAIN! Choo Choo!
