VaVoom Calm Room

Help me give my students an iPad and protective iPad Cover. Our school district has a virtual Calm Room with de-escalating apps and calming activities. It is a great tool to give to students with anxiety and anger.

My Students

My students are sixth through eighth graders. They come from a high crime neighborhood and attend a Title I school with about 561 students who range from regular education through profoundly disabled. English is the second language for about 25% of our student population.

As a school counselor, I work with students daily in various capacities.

I teach classroom guidance lessons, lead small groups and conduct individual counseling. Some common topics we work on are coping skills, conflict resolution, social skills, social media and internet safety, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, bully prevention, career awareness and anger management. Our students work hard and they are eager and exited to learn new skills.

My students come to school with many environmental challenges. One of my goals is to help them learn that anger is a part of life, use tools to deal with their stress, move on, and focus energy on the positive.

My Project

Teaching positive and healthy coping skills is a big part of what a school counselor does. Difficult and uncomfortable feelings are a part of life and students need help learning how to deal with them. I am requesting an iPad and protective iPad cover. Our school district has a virtual Calm Room we will load this new iPad with de-escalating apps and calming activities.

With this iPad students will be able to access endless apps, calming activities, and wonderful websites to help them deal with anxiety and anger.

Moreover, students love using technology and will often "buy in" if technology is involved. As a school counselor, I will meet them where their interests are, with the goal of helping them learn how to feel okay with discomfort, move on and feel good again!
